Waldorf Homeschooling in the Lower Grades (1-5)

Christopherus Third Grade Curriculum

Old Testament Stories: Manual and Storybook

This 2-volume set consists of a bound 5½" x 8½" storybook, Stories from the Books of Moses, and a teaching manual consisting of 8½" x 11" sheets in a clear plastic folder. The manual contains 24 pages of text (including a short play, Joseph and His Brothers) plus full-page pictures, including 10 full-color reproductions of watercolor paintings.      $35.00

Please note: these materials are also available as part of the Christopherus 3rd Grade Curriculum package.

These materials can be used for either a 6-week 3rd grade language arts block or for mixed age youth groups (church, synagogue or similar).

We split this work into 2 volumes so that parents will feel good about reading the very special stories of the Old Testament directly to their children, without having to flip between various activities and instructions!

The storybook, Stories from the Books of Moses, consists of a retelling of stories from the books of Genesis and Exodus (from the Creation to the arrival at the Promised Land) based upon the rich language of the King James version of the Bible.

The manual contains:

  • 10 full color paintings with full step-by-step instructions

  • A puppet play, Joseph and His Brothers, including a full script, instructions and tips, and templates

  • Advice on creating a main lesson book

  • Sample schedule and teaching advice

We have 4 sample pages for you (all in PDF format):

    • Text from the manual

    • Text from the manual

    • Color reproduction of a watercolor painting from the manual

    • A couple of pages from the storybook

We also have a page where you can see the music and listen along to the song included in this book: Go Down Moses

Please see the Homeschool Journey blog entry on this publication for further background information on this important 3rd grade main lesson and how we created these materials.

Note: we are sorry that the individual parts of this Old Testament Stories set cannot be sold separately.

    Customer Testimonials

"I received my package today and simply could not go to bed without telling you how wonderful it is! I have seen the old testament block presented in other forms, and have seen the finished books of several students. I have even heard no less than three Waldorf teachers or former students tell me about how/why it is taught.

"All of this previous exposure combined was less useful than the last hour I spent reading the Christopherus Old Testament Block manual!

"I think over the past several years I had built the block up into a beautiful but almost unattainable reality. Add to that the fact that our family is experiencing some significant adjustments due to my own mother's severe illness and I had all but given up bringing this block to my soon to be nine year old daughter. Your work made the block seem not only important to the nine year old child, but fun, provocative and most importantly, POSSIBLE for me to teach.

"Thank you once again for your contribution to our home learning journey!"

    Jolene Cook, Westfield MA
